What We Do
Here is how we are reaching out to make a difference in our city-
Serve Saturday Breakfast – We serve free breakfast on Saturday mornings in four different public housing communities; Indian Village, Villages at Lincoln (formerly Lincoln Terrace), Jamestown Place and Hunt Manor. We use that time to build relationships and listen to the needs of the community. We usually have 30-45 folks from each neighborhood join us for this. In addition to serving food we do a variety of things like music, crafts, puppets and a Bible lesson each week. This has been our doorway into these communities and has opened up lots of other opportunities to serve and be on mission.
Connect to Community- We have made great connections with the families that participate in the Saturday breakfasts and we are going the next step to connect them to a solid church near their home. Our approach to this is both practical and organic…We actively seek out nearby churches to participate in this and our regular City Missionaries are encouraged to bond with kids and families and welcome them into their lives and homes during the week and pick them up for church services on Sundays!
Multiply Mission– As more and more volunteers get involved we are preparing them to step out into different communities and keep the mission moving forward. We are also training people from the communities that we work in be on mission in their own neighborhood. We believe that God uses ordinary folks, who make themselves available, to do extraordinary things!
